The Materials and Process Engineering Department, which functions within Mechanical Engineering, is looking for a Tech to join our team in Andover, MA in the Advanced Materials Section. A qualified candidate will have experience working in lab settings. They would be processing test samples and hardware through a series of steps, maintaining traceability/inventory and recording data/characterizing materials, as well as coordinating and communicating with others on the processing schedule and status of the materials. Experience with grinding/lapping/polishing of materials, especially optical fabrication of materials, is a plus.
What You Will Do:
Running processing equipment in lab settings.
Ensuring proper control of ITAR and Raytheon proprietary information
Perform thermal treatment activities at local vendors
Manage supplier invoicing for completed/to be completed jobs
Own machine preventative maintenance schedule(s) and hold supplier accountable
Manage local vendor process and PPE consumables
Coordinate and communicate thermal treatment scheduling
Perform post thermal treatment characterization
Manage in-process part inventories to ensure part locations and data are accounted for
Manage hardware: perform incoming inspection, maintain an inventory, package and ship
Travel to support transition of thermal treatments to supplier
Process test samples and hardware through a series of steps, maintaining traceability/inventory and recording data/characterizing materials.
Coordinate and communicate with others on the processing schedule and status of the materials.
The Optical Shop and Lab Technician job is in Andover, MA and the position is onsite.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 6+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience in working in a lab environment
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Equivalent Optical Shop and Lab Technician MOS: 68A (United States Army), 0844 (United States Marine Corps)
Strong verbal and communication skills, ability to work on cross-functional teams, interacting with teammates of varied experience
Good problem solving skills
Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques
Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills
ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from diverse communities and cultures
Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles
Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
