As an Advanced Manufacturing Technician youll perform diverse and complex assignments in support of product development and manufacturing. At Dowty (a GE Aerospace company) we design, manufacture, repair and overhaul a range of propeller systems for Military and Civil applications. This is done from our new state of the art facility in Gloucestershire, UK.
In this role you will be part of the new product introduction (NPI) team to provide support to the growing demand for new propeller manufacturing systems and contribute to develop the next generation of electrified, sustainable aviation. You will be a highly valued member of the NPI launch team who are empowered across GE Aerospace to ensure design intent is correctly translated using our production system.
You will work with the Operations and Manufacturing Engineering team to manufacture new products in our production line. As part of this higher level role, you’ll document the build process creating work instructions that align to our safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity business priorities. A key part of your work will be to deliver products to quality and on time and determine the best build process to do this.
With a focus on manufacturability, you’ll be expected to work with initiative and self-starting capacity making suggestions for improvements and considering the best process for the operator. As the NPI program develops you will follow the program into new dedicated facilities becoming a focal point and subject matter expert across the whole manufacturing process and able to train new starters
Responsibilities
Building new and development trial products on the manufacturing line with only high-level instructions.
Working across multiple process including but not limited to carbon composite layup, RTM, deflashing, composite repairs and machining.
Documenting specific work instructions for an operator putting Safety (inc. ergonomics), Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity first and in that order.
Participating in daily manufacturing rhythms to support NPI product development and raise roadblocks so they can be escalated and resolved.
Striving to meet the build & quality plan and making every effort to overcome obstacles and constraints to achieve that aim.
Being flexible in taking on tasks and requests that you can support as part of wider NPI team working collaboratively to deliver the business’s needs.
Receive training and take on responsibilities to master several different processes and become a subject matter in every aspect of the product build.
Working for the Manufacturing Engineering team within the Operations environment, be a representative for that team and demonstrate best business practice.
Contribute to other aspects of the build as and where required i.e. maintaining 5S work area standards, creating risk assessments for processes, suggesting and trialling new 3D printed tooling etc.).
Qualifications/Requirements
Familiarity working in a modern manufacturing environment.
Good written and verbal communication, able to create written work instructions and manufacturing trial reports.
Organised and good attention to details.
A self-starter, able to work independently with minimal direction towards a business goal and collaborative with other business functions.
Ability to attend daily meetings with higher level management and articulate challenges with a positive mindset and approach.
Able to interpret basic drawings.
Desired skills
Experience within a tightly regulated industry, preferably aviation.
Demonstrable experience working with at least one of all the following: carbon composite manufacture, resin transfer moulding, CNC machining.
Knowledge of the NPI process and the Manufacturing Engineering team’s role within this.
