Overview

The Senior Manager, Inventory Management is a highly technical role responsible for developing and managing a cost-effective material strategy while providing the highest possible level of material availability to support all customers and fleet types operated by the airline. This role requires leadership in Inventory Management activities, including demand planning, sourcing, surplus management, distribution, and other related functions for $400M+ of aircraft material and tooling inventory. Close collaboration with Maintenance, Engineering, and Supply Chain leaders is essential to ensure optimized material availability. The Senior Manager will oversee material service levels for all customers and fleet types, ensuring proper allocation and availability at the appropriate stations. Additionally, the Senior Manager will execute the work of the Material Planning, Inventory Control, and Tooling teams to meet business deliverables.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a professional analytical and technical staff planning aircraft material and tooling requirements for both line and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Execute the airline stocking strategy while balancing inventory, operational performance (Dispatch Reliability), and financial objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a material planning model to support aircraft in service, including station allocation, min/max, reorder point, safety stock, and economic order quantities for consumable, expendable, repairable, and rotable inventory.
  • Control the pedigree of the material contained in the inventory.
  • Drive all functional and inventory-related KPIs; accountable to the Senior Director, Supply Chain Operations for delivering process improvements to meet KPI targets.
  • Forecast inventory demand and adjust allocation levels to support forecasted block hours and customer requirements.
  • Establish and oversee execution of inventory change requirements for aircraft additions, fleet changes, modifications, and station start-up.
  • Manage material surplus, consignment, and scrap management programs to ensure only relevant and required inventory is maintained by the company.
  • Monitor, conduct analysis, and adjust allocation strategy based on continuous operational changes.
  • Determine requirements for Flight Spares Kits in collaboration with the Tech Ops department.
  • Manage the material replenishment process and collaborate with supporting departments to achieve all KPI targets.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Reliability on the development of component work scopes and repair instructions.
  • Model both the inventory demand and inventory value impact of all proposed modifications, Engineering Orders (EOs), task card updates, etc.
  • Review all service disruptions (delays, cancellations, loans, AOG events) and drive corrective actions through assigned staff as required.
  • Monitor the supply chain and coordinate with Procurement, Stores, AOG, and Repairs to manage and mitigate issues.
  • Mentor and develop all assigned staff on material management strategies and advanced techniques; provide necessary training as required.
  • Lead continuous improvement/cost savings initiatives within the department.
  • Oversee Aircraft Tooling and Inventory Planning functions and strategy development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Supply Chain Operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Business Analytics required.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or Business Analytics preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in a Technical Operations or Supply Chain Planning role; direct airline experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Analytics or Engineering role.
  • Excellent analytical skills including use of statistical methods and mathematical models to calculate inventory values and forecasted demand.
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP certification, or equivalent demonstrated experience and understanding required.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software (TRAX, Oracle, or SAP).
  • Knowledge in supply chain processes including component life cycle management, component reliability, parts pooling, and demand planning.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including interaction with a global team requiring occasional off-hour communication and support.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a multitasking environment with continually changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical and fiduciary data along with recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in planning processes: demand planning, supply planning, new fleet introductions, material planning, and component life cycle management.
  • Excellent analytical and computer skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including interaction with a global team requiring occasional off-hour communication and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage performance of assigned staff and influence peers.
