We are partnered with a Part 145 company in Bridgeport, WV to fill a Safety Management System (SMS) Manager role. This person is responsible for developing, implementation, and continuous improvement of the SMS to include elements of the Safety Policy, Safety Risk Management, and Safety Promotion components of the system. The SMS Manager ensures the SMS system provides a structured, repeatable, systematic approach to proactively identify hazards and manage safety risk to avoid or mitigate future aviation accidents.
Here are the daily responsibilities of an SMS Manager:
- Develop, review, and update SMS policies to reflect the organization's safety commitment and ensure compliance with FAA and EASA regulations.
- Continuously improve maintenance safety risk management by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing mitigation controls.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of safety and risk management programs aligned with SMS standards and industry best practices.
- Support leadership in managing and improving the SMS program in accordance with Title 14 CFR Part 5.
- Ensure compliance with MHIRJ SMS standards and objectives.
- Support the execution of hazard identification and risk management programs.
- Provide expertise and support in the completion of internal and external audit findings; partnering with the Quality Department as needed for compliance with the Repair Station Manual.
- Analyze safety data to identify trends, reduce risk, and inform proactive safety measures.
- Prepare safety reports and communicate relevant SMS information across the organization.
- Collaborate with internal teams and regulatory authorities to maintain SMS alignment and compliance.
- Promote a strong safety culture through communication, training, awareness initiatives, and encouragement of open safety reporting.
- Support SMS training programs to ensure employees have role-appropriate safety competencies.
- Collaborate with the EHS Manager to align aviation maintenance safety with OSHA and workplace safety standards.
