The Boeing Applied Innovation team has an opportunity for a Partnership and Growth Principal (Senior or Lead), which will be a key member of the “Partnership & Growth” team. This position will report directly to the Partnership and Growth Senior Manager and can be located in Seattle, WA; Arlington, VA; Seal Beach, CA; Dallas, TX; or Berkeley, MO.

Boeing Applied Innovation is the disruptive innovation cell at Boeing and its mission is to ‘Bring Outside-In Innovation to Boeing’.

Position Responsibilities:

  • The Partnership & Growth team is responsible for identifying and leading development programs that will maximize the value of strategic investments and partnerships on behalf of the Boeing Company. The Partnership & Growth team works closely with the Boeing Applied Innovation Portfolio Development team to create non-traditional partnerships and business models that will maximize strategic benefit for Boeing.
  • This team will work in close connection with both Boeing Ventures and AEI Horizon X to maximize the value of investments with our portfolio companies.
  • Additionally, the Partnership and Growth team will be responsible for cultivation of the commercial development pipeline, a key tool used by Strategy and Applied Innovation establish objectives for technology transition.  Partnership & Growth activities include: leading business model and business case development activities on behalf of Boeing programs, working with external partners and Portfolio Companies, pipeline monitoring, program management and deal team leadership for funded activities, acting as fiduciary in maximizing strategic investment benefit on behalf of Boeing.
  • The Partnership & Growth Principal will build upon partnerships created by the Applied Innovation team in order to create scalable go to market strategies. Further they will work with the Emerging Capabilities team to improve the quality, “fit,” and value capture from new investments.
  • The Partnership & Growth principal will drive results by working with a cross functional team of experts (Strategy, Finance, Engineering, Legal, and Market Development professionals) tasked with business model analysis, advisory and program development.
  • This position’s primary responsibility of securing the strategic and monetary value from our investment portfolio and non-traditional partnerships.  Partnership & Growth is further focused on advising Applied Innovation and the ETO (Enterprise Technology Office) on the creation of strategies that will drive long term success stories for both Boeing and the AE HorizonX Portfolio Companies.
  • This individual will be expected to work with internal and external professionals from all functions across The Boeing Company, our vendors, partners, investors, and customers working across international sites and time zones.

Bringing scale to businesses will require:

  • Leading the exploration and analysis of non-traditional business models and complex transactions
  • Fostering and leading teams with an “Intraprenuerial” Mindset, where innovation begins within an established organization
  • Ability to think creatively with regard to novel business structures and risk postures outside of the normal scope of business of the enterprise
  • Work closely with partner AE HorizonX in the development of deal terms that leverage venture capital and private equity where applicable

In addition, the position will at times be required to support other aspects of Applied Innovation activities including:

  • Assessing investment opportunities
  • Identifying technology gaps
  • Evaluating spinout opportunities
  • Supporting engagements between the portfolio company and external partners
  • Leading deal teams in business case development

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience): 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 5&43; years of experience in a Strategy, Business Development, Strategic Planning, Market Analysis, Competitive Intelligence, Finance, Law, and/or Engineering field
  • 3&43; years of experience developing and analyzing business cases

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):  

  • 10&43; years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10&43; years of experience in a Strategy, Business Development, Strategic Planning, Market Analysis, Competitive Intelligence, Finance, Law, and/or Engineering field
  • Juris Doctorate and/or MBA
  • Experience with complex contract negotiation
  • In depth understanding of IP valuation
  • Experience leading complex projects with multifunctional teams
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and working on geographically dispersed teams

Typical Education/Experience:

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD&43;4 years related work experience, Master&43;7 years related work experience, 13 years related work experience, etc.).

Lead (Level 5)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD&43;9 years related work experience, Master&43;12 years related work experience, 18 years related work experience, etc.).

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range Senior (Level 4): $122,400 - $165,600

Summary Pay Range Lead (Level 5): $158,950 - $215,050
