General
This is a full-time, FLSA exempt position that reports to the Director of Safety. The Manager of Safety has responsibility for managing the programs that result in the airline’s safe operations for both its team members and customers. The Manager of Safety will assume a proactive stance in performing his/her duties and responsibilities and will keep the Director of Safety informed on a continuous basis of all concerns that might affect the safety and Compliance of the airline. The Manager of Safety is an important position which ensures all Eastern Airlines personnel promote safety and regulatory compliance for all Eastern Airlines operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Establishing, documenting, and maintaining the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS) program.
- Developing the instructions and training for the Company’s SMS.
- Ensures integration and implementation of SMS throughout the organization. Investigate and analyze root cause of any safety related symptoms or incidents and recommend policies, programs, or procedures to prevent future occurrences.
- Evaluating hazard data and developing reports identifying trends and risks. Providing feedback for additional safety initiatives and programs to the DOS.
- Participating in safety committee meetings, conferences, and continuing education programs as assigned.
- Communicating safety issues and cooperating with all employees and contracted vendors to address concerns.
- Assisting departments with educating, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and procedures.
- Identifies and documents safety assurance nonconformities. Tracks and verifies the implementation of corrective actions with specified timeframes.
- Communicates results to affected organization and monitors responses from affected Departments.
- Manages the Company’s Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) program, Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP), Emergency Response, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hazardous Materials Program (HAZMAT), and Fatigue Risk Management Program (FRMP).
- Works with Department Leaders to ensure relevant company manuals required by 14 CFR are current and include appropriate responsibility, authority, policies, procedures, and interfaces. Ensures Safety Risk Management (SRM)/Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) is thoroughly conducted and documented for each revision.
- In the absence of the Director of Safety, may be called upon to liaise with FAA Certificate Management Team (CMT), OSHA, NTSB, DoD, or other regulatory agencies as directed by the President.
- Manages the budgets needed to ensure necessary resources are provided to the functions assigned to safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Requires at least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory position with a 14 CFR Part 121 scheduled air carrier
- In lieu of the above, at least three (3) years’ experience in U.S. military aviation operations or a supervisory position previously held with a U.S. government department, board, or agency that deals directly with aviation matters may be accepted.
- Requires strong knowledge or Operations Specifications, aviation safety standards and operating practices, and applicable provisions or FAA regulations Parts 1, 5 (SMS), 91, 119, and 121.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Must always exercise good judgement.
- Travel will be required.
- Pass a two (2) year drug and alcohol background check, pre-employment drug test, and criminal history records check (CHRC).
- Eligible to work in the United States.
