The Cheltenham Site Quality Leader is accountable for the end-to-end Quality strategy and performance of the Cheltenham site, driving measurable improvement across Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). This role leads the site Quality Management System, regulatory and customer compliance, and product conformance from New Product Introduction through production and in-service support. The leader partners with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Programs, and Services to prevent defects at source, reduce escapes, and enable reliable delivery at the lowest total cost. Core responsibilities include building standard work and process controls, leading problem-solving and continuous improvement, managing audits and certifications, elevating supplier quality performance, and developing a high-performing Quality organization. Roles and Responsibilities
- Leadership responsibility for the development, implementation, and execution of the site Quality Strategy, aligned to the Systems level strategic objectives
- Manages a medium sized team of senior professionals and quality technicians. Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
- Owns the Quality relationship with the customer at a senior level. This includes relationships with the largest Tier 0 airframe customers in the world, at their most senior level within the Quality organization. This includes ownership of customer scorecard performance outcomes
- The role will have both direct and indirect accountability for relevant regulatory airworthiness approvals for the Cheltenham campus
- Ownership includes both quality assurance and quality control. Includes quality assurance of products, services, manufacturing processes. Includes conformance in manufacturing, incoming goods control, product inspection, witness points, etc.
- Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
- Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
- May lead functional teams or projects related to complex technical issues. Should be able to communicate difficult concepts and influence others related to investigation direction.
Required Qualifications
- This role requires significant experience in Manufacturing & Production Quality from a highly regulated multi-national company.
- Knowledge level is comparable to a Masters degree from an accredited university or college.
- Strong leadership experience in a Quality role is a must.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
- Established project management skills.
- Experience and ability to communicate complex issues simply and concisely, at the most senior level amongst multiple organizations, to drive successful outcomes for both GE and the Customer
- Ability to provide clear leadership in unclear situations.
- The role requires strong leadership through complex and ambiguous issues, with high familiarity using practical problem-solving techniques to drive successful outcomes
- Experience working with complex, matrixed organizations and the ability to use effective problem solving and data, to influence horizontally and vertically within the organization outside of your natural hierarchy
- Proven track record of presenting and influencing at the most senior level
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject and/or related experience
Desired Characteristics
- Strong experience in Aerospace Quality is desired
- Experience (and ideally accountability) working within Pt 21 and Pt 145 approved aviation businesses is desired
