In a team-oriented work environment, under little to no supervision, the Structural Mechanic III performs a variety of structural assembly operations using required tools and appropriate prints, specs, and operational requirements.

  • 4 years related structural assembly experience
  • Experience working with Solumina and Smarteam preferred
  • Q-stamp preferred
Position Purpose
Perform structural assembly operations, ensure conformance to specifications, and meet customer expectations. May assist and instruct other team members.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Assembly and Fitting: Safely perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, and varied drilling and riveting operations.
  • Sheetmetal Layout and Fabrication: Safely perform sheetmetal layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment, or fabricated items on aircraft.
  • Adaptability: Possess the proven ability to move to new tasks with only a moderate, short-term impact to established goal hours and schedule.
  • Riveting and Fastening: Rivet structural members, assemblies, and parts using required tools.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence of operations.
  • Quality Control: Check all work and ensure a defective-free assembly prior to final inspection.
  • Team Support: Instruct and assist other team members in interpretation of blueprints, drawings, and engineering orders.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain and use all logs and records (e.g., MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs).
  • Part Alignment and Assembly: Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners.
  • Repair and Rework: Make repairs per Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Request (MRR), Production Change Orders (PCO).
Additional Functions
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Tool Maintenance: Properly use and maintain company-provided tools and equipment.
  • Ground Support Equipment Operation: Ensure standard operating procedures are followed when operating ground support equipment.
  • Waste Disposal: Properly collect and dispose of waste fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de-icing fluids, and solvent rags.
  • Job Charging: Ensure accurate daily job charging to the aircraft.
  • Shift Coordination: Exchange job-related information and coordinate work activities between shifts.
Other Requirements
  • Basic Computer Skills: Basic computer and basic shop math skills.
  • Document Interpretation: Read and comprehend basic documents and instructions.
  • Personal Skills: Essential personal skills, attention to detail, ability to work with people, and meet demanding schedules.
  • Close Tolerance Work: Skilled in close tolerance work and have knowledge of special tools and equipment.
  • Composite Materials: Ability to work with composite resins and materials.
  • Shift Flexibility: Must be able to work any shift.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to climb ladders, stands, stairs, work in small spaces, and lift 50 lbs.
