The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, hardware integration, and electronic modules, pedestal and power and cooling systems. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.

The Radar department is looking for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Air Launch Surveillance Radar team.

This role is located in Marlboro, MA (On-site).

What You Will Do 

Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.

Develop mechanical designs from initial concept to formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models) and culminating in initial builds, testing, transition to production, and production support.

Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.

Hands-on “Working Lead”, who oversees a small team and serves as the technical execution lead by providing direction.

Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.

Collaborate across multiple disciplines such as Materials Engineering, Quality Engineering, Safety, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Whole Life Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Interconnects, among others.

Working knowledge of Thermal, Structural, Dynamic, and Reliability analysis to provide inputs and support. Incorporate results and findings into mechanical design.

Perform complex tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.

Strong CREO modeling ability

Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges to support development and production milestones.

Support follow-on proposal and costing activity

Support and participate in design peer reviews, closing action items, resolving issues, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.

Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment.

Qualifications You Must Have  

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of prior experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with a minimum of 3 years designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments.

High proficiency with 3D CAD design tools and/or related product data management tools.

Proficiency with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience in practice.

The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Experience with the SPY6 naval product line and architecture

Experience in leading small development efforts and teams with cost and schedule responsibility.

Experience in radar ship integration and interfaces

Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.

Experience in design integration of electronic assemblies 

Experience in shelter design and interconnects routing

Experience with metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts), and rapid prototyping solutions. Experience with welding and/or bonding a plus.

Demonstrated expertise in product assembly, fabrication methods, manufacturing processes and technologies including machined components & products.

Experience in selection of materials for structural, thermal, mechanical, electrical, producibility, and environmental considerations including corrosion mitigation and prevention.

 This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
