Job Description:

What is the position: Apprentice Technicians are directly responsible to the Lead Mechanic or designee and will work directly under the supervision of a Certificated Technician while performing work on aircraft and/or components.

Essential Functions:

  • The Apprentice Technician is responsible for performing all assigned duties in accordance with company maintenance manuals, policies and procedures, applicable FAA regulations, and appropriate safety rules.
  • Initiate and maintain personal, company and/or other pertinent documentation including OJT logs for use towards Airframe, Powerplant, and/or Repairman ratings.
  • Maintain work areas & tools in a safe, clean and functional condition at all times.
  • Perform maintenance to aircraft, aircraft components and accessories.
  • Assist Certificated Technicians with the work he/she performs, including the proper execution of paperwork and forms.
  • Ensure that all hazardous materials storage is frequently inspected to ensure proper containers, lids, labeling and location also that are handled and stored in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of all positions at CommuteAir.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General requirements & qualifications

  • Minimum age, 18 years old.
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Good communication skills (verbal, written, and radio)
  • Positive attitude towards productivity, safety, and quality maintenance and learning.
  • Available to work shifts and overtime as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward productivity, safety, and quality maintenance.
  • Organized with the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities regularly.
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Legally authorized to work in the USA.

Physical Requirements:

Heavy Work:

Exerting up to 70 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 20 lbs. of force regularly to move objects.

    • Ability to safely drive tugs, trucks and hangar equipment, taxi aircraft, alert to moving vehicles and aircraft in the work area.
    • Ability to lift, push, pull and maneuver up to 50 lbs. regularly, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, and kneel frequently, and often in confined spaces.
    • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to hear instructions orally, in loud environments, and the ability to detect fine differences in sound that may or may not affect the repair or operation of aircraft.
    • Ability and willingness to wear personal protection equipment when necessary.
    • All physical requirements may be performed with or without accommodation.

Visual Acuity:

Machine Operators and visual inspection includes office administrative functions:

Includes inspection, close assembly, clerical administrative; This is a minimal standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, computer, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines using measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts with or without corrective lenses.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Depending on work location, may be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions including, extreme heat, temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour and/or extreme cold, temperatures below 32 degrees for extended periods.
  • High noise levels, which, at times, may require PPE.
  • Vibration: exposure to oscillation movements of extremities or the whole body.
  • Hazard awareness: including proximity to moving parts, electrical current, working on ladders; exposure to chemicals and power equipment.
  • Atmospheric conditions: including the possibility of conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or working in areas with poor ventilation for more than a few minutes. The worker may be required to wear a respirator at times.
  • Oils: Occasional exposure to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other fluids
