Aircraft Systems Mechanic I - Malibu Systems - 1st shift  (Full Time)
Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - Experienced

Assists the Supervisorin the production of high-quality aircraft parts & assemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.

Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

  • Performs critical aircraft mechanical, electrical & hydraulic system installs and functional checks.
  • Able to perform and troubleshoot multiple critical jobs, such as, Engine rigging, control surface rigging and function checks, Gear systems installs and function checks, air conditioning charging, radar pod install, main entry door fit/trim/installs, fairing installs, engine cowl fit/trim/install, fuselage pressurization checks, and instrument panel installs.
  • Performs at a high level of quality and productivity. Assists other teammates to achieve a high level of quality and productivity.
  • Inspect and buy off own and other teammates work using Piper inspection certifications.
  • Maintain departmental compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.
  • Interface with other departments regarding quality concerns to resolve expeditiously and in a cost-effective manner.
  • Troubleshoot and re-work all major discrepancies as necessary.
  • Primary point of contact for performing major and regular Material Review Board repairs, Standard repairs and modifying aircraft due to customer or design directed changes.
  • Act as the technical liaison between Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance the teams performance including schedule delivery performance, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions. Assists with data collection, review and report generation.
  • Work with other manufacturing areas to ensure production readiness for design changes. Provides assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing. This may periodically involve augmenting Experimental Flight Test Department in a variety of capacities in order to achieve critical program milestones.
  • Audit all departmental programs for effectiveness
  • Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion Aircraft Systems Mechanic program or 2 years experience preferred.
  • Related Aircraft - Manufacturing / Service Experience Requirements:
    • Aircraft Systems Mechanic I: 2 years of experience
    • Aircraft Systems Mechanic II: 2 5 years of experience
    • Sr. Aircraft Systems Mechanic: 5 years of experi.nce
  • Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Use of hand and power tools as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions.

Physical Demands

Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate job specific equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out, and below.
