Job Title: Aircraft Assembly - Layup Operator
Job Description

Build composite parts using appropriate hand layup techniques. Utilize a laser system for accurate layup of plies on tools. Ensure build-up free from wrinkles, air pockets, and voids by fitting and smoothing successive layers of materials. Perform vacuum bagging for room temperature, oven, and autoclave processes. Conduct in-process inspections and record time worked accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Build composite parts using appropriate hand layup techniques.
  • Utilize a laser system for accurate layup of plies on tools.
  • Fit and smooth successive layers of materials to secure build-up free from wrinkles, air pockets, and voids.
  • Perform vacuum bagging for room temperature, oven, and autoclave processes.
  • Conduct in-process inspections as instructed on travelers and as delegated by quality.
  • Read precision measuring tools and instruments.
  • Accurately record time worked on operations through Epicor.
  • Visually inspect parts prior to bagging and perform leak tests on vacuum bags.
  • Accurately record information on paperwork associated with the position.
  • Mark identifying information on parts.
  • Use chemicals, adhesives, and solvents as required.
  • Clean and prep bond tools as needed.
  • Unbag and demold parts as needed and clean the area after use.
  • Follow safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment and manage competing demands.
  • Read and understand blueprints and drawings.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in assembly, production, and use of hand tools.
  • Ability to perform hand layup of advanced composite materials.
  • Experience with tooling fabrication and tool prep for lay-up.
  • Proficiency in vacuum bagging, precision trimming, and layup techniques.
  • Skill in visual inspection and inspection of parts.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms frequently.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally.
  • Capability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 25 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds seldomly.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Work in a large state-of-the-art manufacturing facility within teams of 3-5 working cells. The dress code is business casual. Both 1st and 2nd shifts are available from Monday to Friday.
