Job Description:

Responsible for the airfield Driving Training Facility which administers and supervises the Airfield Driver’s Training program in accordance with established requirements for all personnel assigned to Creech AFB (CAFB) and other specified locations. The individual is required to provide airfield drivers training to all TDY personnel, site survey teams and contractors who will be working on or about the specified airfield(s). Works directly with squadron commanders and section chiefs on all airfield driving course matters and schedules and conducts airfield driving annual recertification. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works for the Wing Airfield Driving Program Manager (ADPM) in administering the airfield driver’s training program. Works closely with Base Operations on all airfield-driving matters.

  • Ensures airfield assigned personnel complete all airfield driver’s training and are fully prepared prior to sending to Base Operations for testing and issuance of a Certificate of Competency, AF IMT 483.

  • Identifies, documents, and tracks personnel requiring access to the Controlled Movement Area (CMA), non-CMA, or restricted airfield driving as applicable.

  • Ensures base personnel who are not trained and certified to drive at night have their AF IMT 483 indicate restricted access.  

  • Conducts and documents practical day and night (as applicable) airfield familiarization training and practical driving tests on base personnel prior to issuance of an AF IMT 483.

  • Develops and maintains all course curriculum, gives classroom instruction and maintain all airfield driving records for Base assigned personnel.

  • Ensures assigned personnel authorized to drive on the installation/facility have completed all the required training and AF IMT 483 is properly annotated. 

  • Ensures assigned personnel have a valid state or government driver’s license to operate privately owned, government or contractor owned/leased vehicles on the CAFB airfield.

  • Maintains current and accurate airfield driving training records, associated forms and listing of personnel authorized to drive on the airfield.

  • Ensures personnel that will drive on the facility receive color vision testing.

  • Conducts and documents annual refresher training on behalf of assigned facility drivers and maintains a copy of the most current refresher training completion date on file.

  • Maintains an Airfield Driving Program Continuity Binder (or electronic equivalent) in the specified TAB format for all individual units assigned.

  • Attends Wing ADPM semi-annual meeting and/or briefings regarding airfield driving.

  • Uses AFI 13-213, Attachment 4 or electronic equivalent to conduct and document a self-inspection of your ADP at least annually. Forwards copies of the inspection results to the Wing ADPM.

  • Develops procedures to disseminate airfield driving related information (e.g. articles, training, etc.) to base airfield drivers.

  • Conducts random spot checks for enforcement and compliance with established guidelines.

  • Corrects all discrepancies noted and forward spot inspection results to Wing ADPM monthly.

  • Maintains current and accurate training and pre-testing materials.

  • Notifies individual’s Unit Commander and Wing ADPM in writing after suspending an individual’s airfield driving privileges.

  • Participates in the Runway Incursion Prevention Working Group.

  • Annually validates the number of personnel authorized to drive on the airfield to include justification for individuals required to enter or cross the CMA and forwards annual results to the Wing ADPM.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/technical training and experience. Extensive knowledge in airport driving procedures or must have completed an accredited Military or Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airfield Management school.  6 Years in Airfield Management, at least 2 years as Wing or Unit Airfield Driving Program Manager or equivalent experience.  Possess knowledge of Airport driving policies and procedures; ability to train personnel in a classroom and practical setting to include night driving; must be able to work alone; must be able to complete assigned tasks with very minimal supervision. Qualify for and maintain a Secret security clearance.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Note: US citizenship is required to obtain US Government security clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and be able to work under deadlines.  While conducting driving tests, location is in the vehicle being operated for instructions. Prolonged sitting, viewing, speaking and remaining alert during driving instruction.  Work may be performed in moderate, variable weather conditions, including periods of time outdoors.  Routine travel is required.
