Position Summary
The Technician supports and assists engineers in aversity of technical task related to research and development, implemtation, and/or operations. Task range from basic to complex maching and require a practical understanding of relevant materials engerign concepts.
Responsibilities
Setup R&D machining operations for materials on the lathe, mill, and CNC
Setup and initiates engineering tests and detailed experimental testing of thermal conductivity, oxidation, adhesion, density, open porosity, strength, hardness and measurement data
Analyzes data to support the needs of the R&D and Engineering team for sample preparation, thermal conductivity, oxidation, adhesion, density, open porosity, strength, hardness and measurement data
Aids in preforming, jigging, handling, processing, machining and anti-oxidation coating of R&D and Production brake stacks for processing, validation, and testing
Suggests new equipment and upgrades need to current lab equipment like preforming equipment, furnaces, testing equipment, office upgrades, etc. and writes Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs) to purchase equipment
Programs controllers for CVI and heat treat furnaces. Uploads G-code for CNC machining equipment. Sets up and operates equipment as necessary
Other responsibilities as assigned
Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
Qualifications
A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent in combination with relevant education and work experience in machining and/or material lab work that will allow successful performance of job expectations
2-year technical or bachelor’s degree preferred
4 years of relevant experience

Excellent knowledge and understanding of frictional materials engineering processes
Ability to effectively manage time around multiple projects
Excellent knowledge and experience machining frictional materials via lathe, mill, and CNC machine
Strong proficiency with MS Office applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Good communication skills both written and verbal
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, work ethics and ability to drive tasks to completion
