Job Description:
Job Summary
Work independently to design, fabricate, and install upholstery and trim items in aircraft interiors, while assisting Shop Lead and mentoring other Upholstery Technicians.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 4 years of experience in upholstery, including 2 years of aircraft upholstery experience, or 6 years of commercial upholstery experience
  • Advanced knowledge of upholstery and sewing processes and products, and/or advanced carpet knowledge
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Fabricate and install seat covers, curtains, and various assemblies and subassemblies
  • Interpret material specifications and design/engineering drawings to ensure finished product meets design and engineering requirements
  • Sew, fabricate, and install covers for aircraft interior panels
  • Use the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks, and sign-off work
  • Work with designs/drawings to cut and install custom carpets with unique patterns
Additional Functions
  • Accept Lead responsibilities, oversee projects, and delegate tasks to assigned technicians
  • Conduct safety audits and assist team members in doing safety audits
  • Assist in maintaining shop equipment and associated JSAs
  • Comply with Safety, 5S, and housekeeping policies and ensure protection of aircraft interiors (PTP)
  • Mentor and train lesser-skilled technicians and monitor their work
  • Work with Lead and higher-skilled technicians to develop and implement process improvements
Other Requirements
  • Possess a working knowledge of inspection and process specifications and terminology
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language proficiently
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation
  • Computer literate
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas, lift up to 40 pounds, and work any shift
