POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsibilities involve performing stress analysis for new and derivative designs of Part 23 aircraft structures and other related activities. This includes review of Engineering drawings, preparing load calculations and writing substantiation reports in collaboration with the Structural Engineering group and Structural Unit Members providing approvals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform static and dynamic structural analysis of metallic and composite structures and fatigue life assessment using both manual (textbook theory) analysis and finite element analysis modeling to guide product design and design changes.
  • Build Finite Element Models to determine internal loads, locate stress concentrations and perform analysis on components.
  • Create stress analysis reports and/or test plans for substantiation.
  • Support static/fatigue test execution and test results.
  • Review drawings, specifications, service bulletins, reports, etc.
  • Document compliance with FAA regulations covering structural strength, crash protection, interiors item, basic loads, weight balance, fatigue life, and flight test instrumentation.
  • Determine and develop approaches to solutions that are lightest, lowest in cost and high quality and consistent with schedule and budget objectives.
  • Acts in collaboration with representatives in other disciplines (design, mass properties, manufacturing, materials & processes, etc.).
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Works under limited supervision; work should only be required to be reviewed for accuracy and consistency with meeting overall objectives.

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.  May be required to train and assist other employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering; a minimum of 10 years in structural analyses, structural test and design or equivalent education and experience is desired.

Detailed knowledge of aircraft with respect to structure, materials and processes specifications, and certification requirements is essential. Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Part 23 and/or 25, or Civil Aviation Authority (CAR) 3.

Experience in Finite Element analysis and modeling is required.  Familiarity with Visual Basic programming and Stress Methods is preferred. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office environment.  The employee may be occasionally exposed to a manufacturing environment and elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, chemicals, or some other elements less desirable than usually found in an office.

 

Travel and overtime are required when necessary.  This position is onsite at the Vero Beach, FL facility and does not include telecommuting.
