We are seeking an experienced onsite Principal Software Engineer to work on the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) International programs as part of the Software Engineering department at our Fort Wayne, Indiana office site. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to join the fast paced and exciting Raytheon/Collins team. This is a position with wide reaching responsibilities covering not only Software Engineering efforts, but also coordination with System Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) and Program Management. Success in this position will enhance the reach of the AFATDS International family of products throughout the world.
The successful candidate is expected to work in a team environment to develop and informally lead teammates to develop implementation of software requirements for various Fire Support Command and Control (C2) software products. This position is located in Fort Wayne, IN and includes possible travel to various US and International destinations.
What You Will Do:
Support the SEIT team in determining the software requirements for Artillery and Fire Support operations.
Implement new capabilities for AFATDS, developing in Ada and/or Java.
Coordinate with Program Engineering and Program Management to support presentations and product demonstrations for internal and external customers.
Evaluate, troubleshoot, and document software defects of AFATDS International and Mobile Command and Control (MC2) products.
Analyze and remediate software defects in AFATDS International and MC2.
Informally lead a small team (e.g., as Scrum Master) in development iterations of AFATDS/MC2 software.
Analyze proposal requirements and produce software cost estimates.
Travel to US and OCONUS locations to support (e.g.) software demonstrations, software integration, and external conferences with end users and peer organizations (expected travel <10 of time).
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically, 8+ years of professional experience in the field of engineering or related technical discipline
Experience with military C2 applications such as AFATDS ,Cannon Fire Control Systems, and/or Rocket/MLRS Fire Control Systems
Expertise in Ada and/or Java software development in a fire support C2 domain
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer:
Bachelors/Masters/PhD in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science
Prior understanding of internal workings of AFATDS and/or MC2
Experience developing software for message exchange following US military-supported standards (e.g., Artillery Systems Cooperation Activity (ASCA), MIL-STD-6017/A/B/C)
Experience developing software under Agile methodologies
Experience using Rational Team Concert
Experience using Git/GitHub/Jira
Experience troubleshooting software applications to identify operational issues affecting system functions
An active US SECRET security clearance or higher
Valid US Passport with at least 6 months remaining before expiration

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
