Join our team as a Principal Quality Engineer (QE) supporting our Advanced Technologies (AT) Air Effectors and Space (AES) Business Area in Tucson, AZ. In this role, youll drive a robust quality culture, practices, and collaboration efforts. Your focus will be implementing strategic quality enhancements across multiple Advanced Air Warfare Systems (AAWS) contracts.
Reporting to the AES AAWS Quality Manager this role shall be responsible for delivering Quality Assurance in line with the Quality Management System and Quality Policy across the several programs within the Advanced Air Warfare Systems (AAWS) business. As the primary quality interface for customers and suppliers, youll ensure the program meets all Quality & Mission Assurance requirements. This includes coordinating with functional Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and overseeing contracts through all Raytheon Lifecycle Program Management (RLPM) phases, from design to production and sustainment.
You shall monitor quality metrics to drive continuous improvement initiatives, working closely with integrated teams to enforce process rigor, transition to production activities, you will conduct Production Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), First Article Inspection, and Quality Control Plan efforts and play a key role in Material Review Board (MRB), Change Control Board (CCB), and Risk Review Board (RRB). Working as part of the QA Team, conducting day to day Quality Assurance activities whilst engaging with key stakeholders across the organization.
This is an “Onsite” role based in Tucson, Arizona.
What You Will Do:
- Manage Quality Management System processes and process control documentation ensuring they are compliant with requirements, objectives and/or contracts while identifying issues, recommending solutions, and creating quality documentation.
- Assist PM, Engineering & Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to define requirements for new products from a compliance and contractual perspective.
- Lead Quality Working Groups to diagnose and mitigate product non-conformities identified internally and externally driving RCCA and Non-Conformance Management to conclusion.
- Provide advice to the Business Area Lead and all Program Managers on the quality aspects of the work being undertaken.
- Understand Product Development Lifecycles to provide key Quality inputs during the different stages.
- Perform quality activities within the Programs to aid the Design activities, respective Quality Assurance Plans (IE: First Article Inspections, Source Inspections, support checks on incoming and outgoing products).
- Engage on both strategic and tactical levels, focusing on quality, cost and schedule performance, early engagement, influencing and providing differentiating quality value to program teams and customers.
- Plan, conduct and oversee Internal Audits to aid Raytheon’s Certifications and act as program representative during External audits.
- Develop partnerships with program and production leaders, IPTs, and other functions to drive issue resolution and implement improved processes.
- Develop and implement strategic and tactical Quality and Mission Assurance plans that will directly affect the program’s execution and influence.
- Generate new Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) projects to reduce costs on the program.
- Implement Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) in accordance with AS9145, as applicable.
- Provide Quality oversight to technical design organizations and perform program reviews.
- Interpret command media in compliance to work being performed.
Qualification You Must Have:
- Typically requires bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and eight (8) years of relevant experience in the areas below;
- Working experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
- Working experience translating external and internal requirements and command media.
- Working experience in providing technical program expertise for manufacturing and/or design processes.
- Experience performing audits of products and processes within a program or business
- Experience applying risk reduction to prevent & resolve issues and remove non-value add processes.
- Experience reading and interpreting design drawings and identifying deficiencies.
- Experience writing and reviewing Quality Plans, reports and customer documentation.
- Experience developing and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Six Sigma, Lean, and/or American Society for Quality (ASQ) certifications (IE: ISO9001 and/or AS9100).
- Experience in Quality Assurance, Internal Auditing and RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action) methodologies, Process Improvement, flows, mapping and streamlining.
- Quality experience in functional areas such as engineering, supplier engineering, manufacturing, production, or operations.
- Experience using PFMEA, SPC, Control Plans, and Process Capability Assessments.
- Experience in hardware inspections and inspection standards.
- Demonstrated experience with Process Re-invention Integrating Systems for Manufacturing (PRISM) or SAP.
- Experience in management and estimation of project budgets and finances.
- Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
- Experience using people skills and working with customers, suppliers, in a team environment, facilitating cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities.
- Experience communicating verbally and in written communications and
networking with other stakeholders while problem solving and creating resolutions with effective and concise presentation skills
Travel: possible business travel to US sites as per business requirements

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
