A permanent job opportunity has arisen for a Power Plant Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer within Airbus Defense & Space to be based on Getafe.

The successful candidate will join the PWP Mechanical Design area and will be integrated into a multidisciplinary team, covering the integration of PWP structures at several platforms.

The main activities of a Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer are related but not limited to:

  • Analyse and validate metallic, composite & hybrid structures for Fatigue and Damage Tolerance, using Airbus Defence & Space methods, to assess design solutions for a whole range of tasks, potentially from concept and structural development to certification and in-service maintenance
  • Sizing of the structural components, parts and assemblies from Fatigue point of view
  • Definition of fatigue loading spectra for lightweight structures in military programs
  • Determination of fatigue allowable stress levels for dimensioning
  • Selection of manufacturing technologies, materials and standards during the sizing
  • Support the structural design process to ensure required quality is achieved for F&DT within direct area of responsibility
  • Definition and establishment of the certification/qualification fatigue documents
  • Definition of inspection programs based on fracture mechanic approaches
  • Structural test definition, support and analysis of the tests
  • Participation in the development of the technological areas of engineering and manufacturing
  • Support the development of the DDMS workflow

It is a dynamic area, leading digital product innovation and LEAN Design, team working with an AGILE mindset, adding value within Design Office activities in production and in service.

Required Competences & Skills:

  • Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or Industrial (Mechanics)
  • A minimum of 1 year of professional experience as Fatigue/DT Structural Analysis of airframe components, mainly but not limited to metallic structures
  • Metallic and composite materials behaviour knowledge
  • Knowledge of structural analysis in general and design details of airframe
  • At least basic experience in stress/fatigue tools (standard FEM codes and SW packages)
  • Knowledge of standard references: books, papers, standards, etc
  • Motivated, proactive and team dynamic player
  • Committed in their own development to learn new skills
  • Fluent in Writing and Spoken English (B2 level or higher)
  • Fluent in Writing and Spoken Spanish

Other Desired Competences & Skills

  • Knowledge of aircraft systems & structures
  • Knowledge of repairs and customer queries solving
  • Knowledge and experience in CATIA/3DX and PDM/PLM Tools, as well as the usual back office tools (Office...)
