Job Summary:

The R&D Flight Systems – Staff Engineer conducts research, definition, and initial integration of a variety of flight systems. The role spans systems such as flight controls, avionics and electrical power systems for general aviation aircraft. The role works closely with equipment manufacturers, as well as other systems engineers, pilots, and others across the engineering organization to establish and refine cross-system requirements for highly integrated aircraft flight systems to help ensure a high-quality end user experience with a safe, robust, and intuitive system design. The R&D Flight Systems – Staff Engineer reports to the Manager of Flight Systems. This is a full-time engineering position.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

The R&D Flight Systems – Staff Engineer performs the following functions with limited guidance from their manager:

· Definition and initial integration of flight systems and equipment, including:

o Participates in technology road mapping

o Conducts conceptual research and development of systems

o Develops proof of concept systems

o Develops requirements and traceability

o Conducts feasibility studies and technology identification of potential solutions to design objectives

o Participates in preliminary design and installation development of systems and equipment

o Supports continued system development

· Coordinates initial design development and system integration within Cirrus and with subcontractors

· Generates high fidelity development planning that will support FAR Part 23 certification requirements.

· Generates engineering documentation in accordance with company procedures to develop and maintain type design data for multiple aircraft.

· Conducts subsystem and system validation, including utilization of integration labs and eventual flightworthy systems.

· Mentors junior engineers

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

· Bachelors degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) required

· 10 years experience with aerospace systems development/integration

Distinguishing Education and/or Experience:

· Pilot experience desirable.

· Prior experience with the following is desirable:

o Integrated avionics systems (e.g. G1000, G3000, etc.) or fly-by-wire systems

o Avionics systems, software and hardware development processes (e.g. ARP-4754/DO-178/DO-254).

o Requirements traceability (DOORS, JAMA, etc.)

o Equipment environmental qualification (e.g. DO-160)

o Basic mechanical Creo (CAD) drawing ability

Demonstrated Proficiencies/Skills/Abilities:

· Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write and speak the English language

· Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner

· Ability to work both independently and within a cross-functional team

· Ability to efficiently learn new skills and manage multiple tasks

· Use of lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers

· Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio)

· Familiarity with Atlassian JIRA, PTC Windchill PDM, and PTC Creo tools preferred
