Flight Sciences Engineer II  (Full Time)
Department: All Openings, Engineering

Position Summary:

Optimize aerodynamic performance to promote safe, efficient, and reliable operation. Develops computational models and simulations to understand and assess the performance of aircraft design and identify necessary improvements. Utilizes wind tunnels to understand aerodynamic principles such as lift, drag, and maneuverability. Collects, processes, and analyzes aircraft data and conducts calculations to understand and estimate flight parameters. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications.

Essential Job Functions

         Contribute to flight test plans related to aircraft flying qualities and performance

         Analyze flight test data to reduce and expand aircraft performance information for the Pilot’s Operating Handbook

         Address flight sciences irregularities resulting from production or experimental flight testing

         Become adept at Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling

         Participate in wind tunnel testing to include model definition, instrumentation requirements, and data analysis

         Participate in trade studies, initial sizing, lofting, and competitor analysis in support of new product development projects

         Support accident investigations when requested following an incident or accident

         Other related tasks as assigned 

 

Minimum Position Qualifications 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Education and Experience

         Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering (or closely related field)

         Two years of experience as a Flight Sciences Engineer

Preferred Education and Experience

         Graduate degree(s) in engineering (or closely related field)

         Python coding language fluency

         Luminary Cloud CFD Software proficiency

         Pilots certificate(s)/rating(s) 

 

Physical Demands 

Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform and accomplish tasks. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
