The role: Engineering Duty Manager

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated candidate to join Engineering Operations, as an Engineering Duty Manager, responsible for delivering the engineering plan on the day. The role will be a key pivotal interface between the engineering support teams and production units, based initially within the Integrated Operation Control centre (IOC).  The individual will work closely with key stakeholders across the business to drive engineering delivery, contributing towards world class operational performance. This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop your career in a very dynamic and demanding position.

The role is shift based and will include working both day and night working.

You will ideally need in depth knowledge of aircraft maintenance and experience in the airline Industry, together with experience working in a high pressure time critical environment.  You will need to be an outstanding communicator that is collaborative, influential and be part of the control centre team engaging across a wide range of departments/colleagues at all levels of the business.  Strong analytical skills are essential to interpret business information, solving problems and issues on the day.

What you’ll do:

  • To be the ‘on-shift’ manager of the Operational Delivery Team and Maintrol
  • To demonstrate the required hallmarks and behaviours using the information available to you to maintain Engineering Operational oversight ensuring aircraft compliance, managing all immediate airworthiness issues as they arise
  • Drive plan achievement and operational performance
  • Identifies and builds collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within engineering and across British Airways to ensure focus on providing customer satisfaction and plan delivery
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement and challenges the status quo to drive improvement into operational processes and delivery
  • Has responsibility for ADD / Op Def clearance process across Engineering and monitoring to drive success
  • To manage the expeditious return to service of all unscheduled unserviceable aircraft worldwide
  • Continuously monitors and acts to improve ETS for casualty and planned aircraft inputs
  • To make on the day operational decisions for all terminal, base and line station operations.
  • Achieve the agreed performance measures, hold stakeholders to account for delivery of the plan by building relationships and identifying blockers that can be overcome
  • Communicate with a wide range of departments /colleagues including Director of Engineering and Engineering Leadership team and Network Operations on a regular basis providing updates on operational issues as required.
  • Arrange / co-ordinate / attend / manage meetings as appropriate to fulfil the responsibilities of the EDM position to maintain an effective interface, communication and co-ordination, between BA Engineering and BA Operations, involving all other departments and regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Manage the interface between Engineering and all other departments in the event of crisis, accident or any other significant operational disruption. Develop, manage and follow Engineering procedures for accidents, incidents and business continuity issues.
  • Perform other assignments and duties as required

Your experience:

  • Working knowledge of engineering processes and procedures 
  • Working knowledge of Operations Control Centres and Tactical Planning process. 
  • Working knowledge of “Part M” and “EASA 145” requirements 
  • General knowledge of Scheduled Maintenance planning principles 
  • Detailed knowledge of BA IT systems including SAP
  • Considerable experience of working autonomously and managing competing priorities 
  • Operational management experience in large workforce areas
  • Experience using Continuous Improvement processes to improve business performance
  • Considerable experience working in a fast moving operational environment.
  • An appropriate technical / operational qualification, e.g. engineering apprenticeship or proven operational management experience within BA 
  • Appropriate Business Qualifications i.e. DMS, or equivalent experience
