Position Title: Engineer Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (LSC, OSC, SSC)

 

Position Summary

The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineer develops new Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques to help solve JetBlue’s most complex commercial, operational and deployment challenges. The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineer will be responsible for maintaining production-grade Machine Learning pipelines, developing new architectures and promoting modeling approaches that deliver the best results with optimum deployment efficiencies. The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineer reports to the General Manager, IT Data Science & Analytics.

 Essential Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams across the business and Data Science team to translate their needs or challenges into production-grade Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning deployment architectures for batch, real-time streaming and edge deployments
  • Support the development of data products through modules, pipelines and deployment standards
  • 50 of the time is dedicated to assisting Data Scientists with production-grade pipelines, 20 of the time dedicated to R&D, and 30 of the time is dedicated to iterating internal AutoML + AutoDeploy libraries including BlueML
  • Work closely with Data team leadership to reduce time-to-market for new Data Science products and maximize model metrics
  • Effectively communicate architectures, experiments, models and analytics outputs with partners[LC1] [LC2] [SPR3] 
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a quantitative discipline; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with the combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Three (3) years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, git and common Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning libraries
  • Experience building Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning models including efficient deployment architectures based on industry best-practices with contributions to and peer reviews of JetBlue internal Machine Learning libraries and products
  • Able to write production-grade code and be familiar with software engineering best practices, including testing, version control and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) frameworks by working closely with internal DevOps teams
  • Ability to communicate their findings to both technical and non-technical audience
  • Ability to successfully complete technical interviews in areas of deployment frameworks, Artificial Intelligence, statistics, Machine Learning, SQL, Python, PySpark, optimization and Machine Learning Operations
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a quantitative discipline
  • Five (5) years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience developing new Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning frameworks in: Forecasting, Recommendation Systems, A/B Testing, Logistics Optimization, Churn Analysis, Segmentation Analysis, and Deep Learning
  • Experience using Databricks, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Docker, Kubernetes, PySpark / Spark, Snowflake, dbt, Azure Cloud

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $140,000.00 and $160,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
