Boeing is seeking a Certification Engineer to join the Boeing Global Services (BGS) Regulatory Administration Team within the Product & Services Safety (P&SS) Organization in Long Beach, California.

This certification engineer will support BGS certification efforts for all Boeing and McDonnell Douglas models, including Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft (MCDA), for post-production or post-delivery. We are looking for candidates with experience in FAA Part 25 certification and engineering programs to manage Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) projects for major changes to type design and validations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, addressing Certification Plans, Compliance Deliverables, Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and Alternative Methods of Compliance (AMOCs).

A strong understanding of the Boeing ODA Procedures Manual and affected processes and procedures is highly desired. Experience working with the FAA, especially with the Boeing Aviation Safety Oversight Office (BASOO) and the Los Angeles and Seattle Aircraft Certification Offices (ACO), is preferred. The role will involve interfacing with ODA Unit members, such as Project Administrators and Engineering Unit Members, and participating in preliminary design activities to develop certification strategies. Providing guidance on regulatory requirements and enhancing the certifiability of new products to minimize future certification risks are also key aspects of this role.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including, Experienced or Senior Certification Engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participation in preliminary design activities to develop certification strategies and to provide counsel on pertinent regulatory requirements, and make suggestions to enhance the certifiability of the new products to minimize future certification risks

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions

  • Evaluates customer and operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces

  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture

  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

  • Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes

  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Long Beach, CA.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 3&43; years of engineering experience

  • Experience in FAA certification or airworthiness

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 9 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience as the prime contact on projects that require coordination between organizations

  • Experience with Boeing Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) Procedures Manual and affected processes and procedures

  • Experience working with the FAA, particularly the Boeing Aviation Safety Oversight Office (BASOO)

  • Experience with Part 25 certification (FAA Airworthiness Standards: Transport Category Airplanes)

  • Excellent cross-functional teaming, collaborative problem solving, building lasting relationships & proficiency in written and verbal communication

  • Design experience

  • Certification experience

  • Systems engineering experience

  • Project management experience

Typical Education / Experience:

  • Experienced (Level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master&43;3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

  • Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD&43;4 years related work experience, Master&43;7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range for Experienced (Level 3): $104,550 - $141,450

Summary Pay Range for Senior (Level 4): $128,350 - $173,650
