Primary Objective of the Position:
Under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology, the successful candidate will be accountable for the design, implementation and ongoing support of IT infrastructure and associated management tools. The chosen candidate will also monitor and provide multi tier support for all aspects of the infrastructure, including end user devices. The chosen candidate will also typically provide Tier 2 technical support to end-users for all computer related issues and may, from time to time, be required to provide Tier 1 support via phone, remote access or travel on-site.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Design, configure, monitor, and maintain TCP/IP, VPN, MPLS / SD-WAN networks, Windows Servers, etc.
  • Design and install on-premises systems and cloud network solutions (AWS)
  • Server / application security patching, upgrades, OS migrations, data migration.
  • Citrix management, patching, migration.
  • Ensure the integrity of data storage and backup systems.
  • Troubleshoot network and infrastructure issues.
  • Identify and make recommendations for improvements to processes.
  • Collaborate with peers to execute daily operations, as well as infrastructure and cyber security projects.
  • Monitor security tools to protect the network from hackers, malware, and other threats.
  • Anticipate problems and resolve them before they impact users - when possible
  • Compile documentation for new and existing implementations.
  • Maintain inventory of network/server hardware and software components.
  • Identify and replace faulty systems and hardware. Implement new hardware solutions.
  • Provide Tier 2 support, where required, for end user computing issues; Tier 1 support may be required.
  • Analyze trends in issues and tickets for all infrastructure, and devise plans for permanent resolution.
  • Implement / Administer infrastructure management tools and ensure their correct operation.
  • Responsible for providing awareness and visibility to management team on all related aspects of technology at Cargojet.
  • Conduct research and provide recommendations for new products, future upgrades, and security patch requirements for software on the end-point computing software list.
  • Liaise with vendors and providers, as it relates to backend infrastructure platform, inquiring and developing an understanding of support model, licensing, contractual requirements, and ongoing changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent training and experience
  • Formal network related certification (Cisco, RSA, VMware, Microsoft, Citrix, AWS, Azure).
  • At least five years of experience in the following areas:
    • Configuring and administering Microsoft Active Directory and Windows Server Roles;
    • Configuring and administering VMware & hyperconverged infrastructure (Nutanix);
    • Implementing and/or configuring and supporting corporate networks (firewalls, switches,routers);
    • Working with cyber security tools (SIEM, NetFlow, Network Monitor, etc.)
    • Providing PC/MAC desktop/laptop support and admnistration
  • Excellent attention-to-detail and ability to stay organized
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form to technical & non-technical individuals.
  • Ability to work independently with tight deadlines to meet established objectives.
