The Specialist, Income Tax position is a highly skilled individual contributor and is the equivalent to an experienced senior at a Big 4 accounting firm. The individual will be a self-starter, actively involved in all aspects of federal, state, and local income tax (compliance, tax accounting, and forecasting). This role will work closely with various members from within and outside the tax department, reporting directly to Manager, Income Tax.   
  • Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns and supporting workpapers for Delta and its subsidiaries. This includes assisting with the calculation and documentation of book tax differences, fixed asset workpapers, state adjustments, state apportionment, and form preparation.
  • Assist with provision and tax accounting responsibilities, including the close process and preparation of our tax footnote for SEC reporting. 
  • Possess a deep understanding of accounting principles to prepare, trace, and comprehend journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Interact with the business and management to identify the tax treatment of book transactions and potential tax opportunities and risks.
  • Assist in researching and documenting technical income tax positions for compliance and planning purposes. 
  • Assist in gathering documentation for federal and state tax audits.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline, improve, and automate processes. 
  • Must practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures. 
  • This is a hybrid role based in Atlanta, GA.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
  • Minimum of 3 years in income tax with a minimum of 2 years experience in large public accounting firm (preferably big 4) with experience in corporate compliance and tax compliance and tax accounting.
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly proficient technology skills (Alteryx, SQL, and/or Power Query a plus).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess a proven ability to work in a team environment and be detail-oriented, deadline focused and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting (preferred Masters Degree)
  • Big 4 Consultancy and/or enterprise tax experience is highly preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Corptax experience a plus
