Job SummaryReporting to the Manager, Government and Media Relations, the Specialist, Government Relations support the development and execution of strategies to strengthen NAV CANADA’s reputation as a global leader in air navigation services (ANS). The Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting the advancement of NAV CANADA’s advocacy efforts and fostering strong relationships with government officials, regulatory bodies, and industry partners. The Specialist contributes to strategic initiatives, resolves complex challenges, and delivers creative, solution-oriented results that position the organization for continued success in a competitive and evolving landscape.
The Specialist supports the design, development, and execution of government relations initiatives. A key focus of the Government Relations team is maintaining open, positive, and ongoing relationships with government stakeholders at local, regional, national levels. This includes fostering relationships with elected officials, policymakers, and public servants, as well as providing education and awareness about NAV CANADAs role and contributions to air navigation services.
Preparing and disseminating advocacy materials, position papers, and briefings are critical for timely and effective communication of NAV CANADAs perspectives on issues, policies, and developments. The Specialist, Government Relations serves as a representative for the organization, supporting advocacy for NAV CANADA’s interests with government stakeholders and ensuring accurate, effective communication of the organization’s priorities, initiatives, and contributions to the aviation sector.

In this role you will:
Collaborate with the Manager, Government and Media Relations, to develop and execute government relations strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
Contribute to the development of innovative solutions by researching best practices and supporting brainstorming sessions to address challenges.
Coordinate communications, such as but not limited to, briefing notes, decks, letters, infographics, speaking engagements, and meetings with key stakeholders, including Transport Canada, Members of Parliament, municipalities, and other government officials and agencies, to support relationship-building efforts.
Support government and stakeholder mapping activities by conducting research, updating stakeholder profiles, and identifying opportunities for engagement.
Represent the organization at select industry events, conferences, and meetings to provide support and facilitate stakeholder engagement.
Support the organization and participation of government relations events, including stakeholder meetings, conferences, and industry forums.
Conduct comprehensive research and analyses on legislation and policy developments impacting the organization, and prepare clear, concise briefing notes for internal stakeholders.
Monitor and report on government policies, legislative developments, and industry trends to identify opportunities and challenges relevant to the organization.
Maintain accurate records of government interactions and follow-ups to ensure consistent and professional communication.
Support the development of advocacy materials, briefing notes, and presentations, with a focus on Indigenous Relationships in Canada.
What you bring:
Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or a related role.
Experience and demonstrated ability to coach and brief executives as required to prepare for stakeholder meetings or events.
Experience with issue management and crisis communication.
Knowledge of government structures, processes, and operations at local, regional, national, and international levels.
Understanding of government stakeholders’ expectations of advocacy and communications.
Knowledge of Canadian public policy, legislative processes, and political environments, including decision-making drivers and stakeholder priorities.
