Position Summary
The Accountant role is responsible for reporting valuable management information, leading changes and improvements, providing financial controls and month end processing through the application of accounting principles, analysis of information, and preparing financial / cost accounting reports, and for day-to-day accounting activities
Responsibilities
Maintain internal control standards of the Corporation to ensure integrity of financial reports with transparent reconciliations.
Month-end Close activities (i.e. prepare and post journal entries, process and review accruals). Support entire month-end close process to ensure timely completion,
Compliance & Auditing – actively participate in internal and external audit processes. Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls and regulatory requirements. SOX Testing
Provide information to Finance Controller to support financial planning budgeting and forecasting
Treasury Management and liaising with internal Treasury department, Banks and SARB.
Payroll Accounting (Weekly Wages and Monthly Salaries), SARS e-filing, VAT201 & EMP201
Balance Sheet & Inter-Company Reconciliations, Inventory Reconciliations
Fixed Asset Accounting
Qualifications
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Accounting qualification (BTech, BComm, BBSci)- required. Post-graduate or Honors- preferred.
Part-qualified, newly qualified or actively working towards CIMA, ACCA, CA(SA), SAIPA or CIBA
Minimum 3-5 years experience in similar role / environment, with multi-level reporting. Manufacturing experience preferred
Business acumen – Desire to learn and understand issues, both operations and commercial.
Audit experience, preferably knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley.
Leading and managing audit activity and driving change
Pricing / Costing experience
Integrated BMS / ERP experience and Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Experience in inter-company accounting reconciliations
Familiarity with requirements of month-end closes
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.
Ability to plan and prioritise to meet daily, monthly and quarterly deadlines within standard work-based framework
Has demonstrated proactive investigative / problem solving / lateral thinking skills
Ability to develop strong working relationships within the business and influence others
