Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week.  This provides flexibility the remaining 40 of the work week.  This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues.  Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

** 16-month Term Position **

WestJet is currently seeking an Accountant - Fuel to support our Finance team. The successful candidate must exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoys problem solving, and takes personal initiative. Working closely with fellow Finance team members and departmental stakeholders, this role is responsible for daily operational accounting, with a special focus on daily organization and processing.

 Key deliverables include:

  • Manage large volumes of email and invoices
  • Work with Internal and external business partners to resolve queries and discrepancies and ensure all significant dollar invoices are included in the month-end.
  • Work in a multi-company account structure (WestJet, Encore, Cargo and Sunwing) with multiple currencies (CAD, USD, Euros and GBP).
  • Ability to work independently, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Investigate discrepancies including vendor statement reconciliations, purchase orders received but not invoiced, tax calculations, and foreign exchange calculations
  • Assist with team on fuel invoice payment procedures, ensuring payments are timely
  • Actively partner with various teams across the organization to assist with ad-hoc reporting, analysis, projects, and decision support as required
  • Be an active member of the Finance team; willing to brainstorm issues and be flexible in completing any task
  • Document processes relating to areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and C-Sox requirements

 Experience and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education and/or certificate in a related field (i.e., Accounting or Finance)
  • Must have a minimum of 2-3 years of related experience
  • High Level of Excel proficiency and a keen interest in learning new technology
  • Previous experience with JD Edwards strongly desired, experience with other ERP software and reporting systems (i.e., Hyperion) considered an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, with a strong desire for continuous improvement  
  • Candidates must be adaptable and flexible, can handle multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy, prioritize and meet deadlines in an environment of continuous change and high-volume activity
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
